Strategic plan of Cremona Municipality

The definition of the draft version of the Plan will be completed within the end of May 2008 and it will be presented during a national conference which is taking place the 29th and the 30th of May 2008. During this conference it will be presented to the town the planning work developed in Cremona in these last months together with some other European experiences.
The conference will be characterized by a confrontation with the town and analysis moment, a fundamental occasion to design all together Cremona as we want it in the future.
The conference will be divided in two days: the first session is opening on Thursday the 29th at 4.30 p.m. and the conference is ending on Friday the 30th at 1.00 p.m.
The aim of the conference is getting new ideas and proposals to design the future of Cremona through the presentations of the good practices of other important Italian and European cities. The conference will be concluded by a debate in which all the citizens can participate and express their own opinions.

The 9th of March 2007 took place the conference "Cremona: verso il piano strategico della città" ("Cremona: towards the strategic plan of the town"). This was an occasion to present the Censis preliminary research (compressed PDF format - 3.076Kb) and to discuss together the challenges for the future.

One year after that conference the works for the definition of the Strategic Plan of Cremona Municipality went on and were carried out through a strong link with the Pact for the Development of the Province and the regional planning.

Our town has decided its visions, its characterizing elements which must be fostered together with its development idea. Cremona will be the:

• Town of talents and innovation
• Town of welcome and wellness
• Town of traditions

Cremona: town of talents and innovation
The territory can attract new talents, creative professionals, enterprises of the third sector and of the advanced third sector. It is necessary to open the town to a new multicultural life offering a lively and open cultural environment. It is important to develop the presence of the universities which can attract foreign students.
In these years our town will also increase its capacity to attract innovative enterprises and skilled and very creative professionals. The town has chosen the new technologies as a new-development tool. The analysis of Cremona highlighted the necessity of starting a new path towards the development of innovation. This path is fundamental to maintain a competitive position which can offer adequate job opportunities to highly trained young people.

Cremona: town of welcome and wellness
The quality of life in Cremona is very good, our town has one of the highest pro capite income in Italy and a cutting-edge system of services in various sectors. Cremona is a citizen-sized town able to welcome possible investments for tourism and foreign tourists.
Cremona can add to the economic wellness and to the quality of life the will of fighting for a better environmental quality. Cremona can boast a good water-quality and good green spaces thanks to the presence of parks in the historical centre and to the important presence of the river Po with its green areas open to the citizens.
These successes are important but now the town must start coping with the ecological emergencies: the bad quality of the air, the condition of the soils, an increasing concreting caused by an excessive urbanization of the territory and the necessity of making further progresses for the waste disposal and the energy efficiency.

Cremona: town of traditions
Cremona is deeply rooted in its traditions. Its agro-alimentary sector, the zootechny, the gastronomic tradition, the artistic handcraft are already very famous: big and small enterprises from Cremona spread with their products a high-quality and cutting-edge image of the town. These sectors are very important for the local economy and culture as the history of the enterprises is interlinked with the changes of the town. Cremona can use its peculiarities as a passport for the global market: the music, the violins, the typical products, the gastronomic tradition, the wellness, the culture and the traditions. At this point it is necessary to work on a systematic marketing action in irder to renew and foster the "territorial product" and its relative investments. Final result: Cremona will become an original trademark and a synonym of quality.
